Chandreshwar temple in Quepem

The Chandreshwar temple is an ancient temple located in Quepem   taluka. The temple is located on  Chandranath hill a heavily wooded hill about 350 meters high and is dedicated to an incarnation of lord shiva. The Chandranath temple also called as  Bhoothnath temple. In local language Chandranath hill is called as  chandreshwar parvat, the temple was associated with Bhoja dynasty. One can reach the Chandreshwar temple by the  granite stone steps from the hill's base or by a drive up over a metal led road.
Many pilgrims arrive at the main entrance for darshan, or the ritual viewing of the deity. Inside the temple inner sanctum, the Shivalinga is made of a natural outcrop of rock.it is placed in such way that it gets bathed on full moon night in moonlight. The temple  ancient chariot is well known for its wood carvings A palanquin procession of the deity is held every Monday evening wherein food is offered to the devotees. The main festival  of jatra  of lord Chandranath is celebrated in the month of march .

In month of march whenever the feast or the jatra take place the idol of lord chandranath is placed in the chariot and moved around the temple.  The special day's of jatra is celebrated for five day's where in there are lot many programs held like people are giving  food during those special day's etc.I have visited this place when jatra was going on and it was my privileged to see chariot being taken around the temple.

Lairai Devi Temple in Shirgao

Shirgao is the holy place of goddess Lairai devi, the temple situated in at Bicholim taluka.  It is very old and famous temple in Goa. The annual jatra associated with this shrines features  unusual customs and rituals drawn from the areas triabal past. The archicteaucture of the temple is unique with a dom and a tail peramid like tower adorning the top.

This is one of the most famous and more unuasal Jatra celebrated in Goa.When thousands of devotees of Lairai  Devi descend on the small town and religious rituals and pujja  dedicated to the goddess are performed throughout the auspicious day. People from different  corner of whole Goa take part in this celebration.
The Shirgao jatra are celebrated in the month of may.The festivals begins early in the morning and continues throughout till sunset.The devotees which are also known as in local language Dhond they perform the rituals.The devotees (dhond) take a bath and walk all the way uphill to the temple to worship the goddess,late into the night asa midnight approaches the devotees perform a frantic dance inside the temple,Which is all lit up for the occasion. The  dance sessoins and  around midnight in the  temple.Fire is made using  a huge pite of wood kept in a large,near the temple.

The final and most intresting part of the jatra begins in the early morning when the fire has stoped buring, the ranking of coals begain the devotees await their turn to walk on the holy path of hot coals. Around 4.am the actal ritual start with the devotees runing through the hot coals carrying there stick with the name of Devi Lairai. In local language the stick are called as beth kati.It is said that the fire does no harm to the devotees who walk silently through the embers.

Kamakshi temple in Shiroda

Kamakshi temple is one of the famous temple in Goa. The original temple of shri kamakshi devi located in Raia village  in the salcete taluka. However ,In 15th century the deity was shifted to shiroda village because of on going inquisition in Goa.

The Legend say's that,a respected Brahmin Agnimukh residing in a place called Raia one's sent his son named Gunakar to forest for collecting dry grass which he was supposed to used in puja or religious rituals. However the demon Mahishasura swallowed the Brahmin boy, when Agnimukh  approched his neighbours they suggested him to approch  kamakshi. The kamakshi than told the  demon to have a battle. Mahishasur was defeted and the Brahmin son was given back and Agnimukh pleaded kamakshi to reside in raia.

Every month Amavasya or the new moon day is celebrated in kamakshi temple where in thousand  of devotees come for darshan on this day. At night during the Amavasya the palanquin procession of shri kamakshi and Laxmi narayan taken round in the temple premises.
The annual festivals are held  at the temple during the Dusshera period and at the time of jatra in spring.The Divja procession had during the jatra wherein countless married women walk around the temple in the evening holding Divja or clay lamps offers a spectacular site.
This place is a very beautiful place with beautiful statue of Kamakshi and also decorated on the special day.once in life should visit this place.

saptakoteshwar Temple in Narve

Saptkoteswar temple 

Saptkoteswar temple which was build by kadamba dynasty, to honnor their family deity. Which was than shifted Adilshahi territory that is from Divade to Narve. because of portuguese captured  and distributed number of  temples . The Saptkoteshwar  temple at  Narve,Goa is considered to be one of the six great sites of temples of lord shiva in the konkan  area. Saptkoteshwar, a form of shiva, was one of the chief deities  of the kings of the kadamba dynasty around  12 th centuary. The temple was built by  the king for his  wife Kamladevi who was a staunch devotee of this god . In 1352 when the kadamba kingdom was conquered by the Bahamani  Sultan Allauddin Hasan Gangu , Goa come under the rule of Adilshah .

The temple is  beautifuly  designed with European style  mandapa ,or assembly hall and there is a beautiful Deepastamba . It may be an important, jain temple patronised by the kadamba rulers. it was my priviledge ti visit saptakoteshwar temple . I have visited this temple  when i was in 12th as it was my part of history field trip. Above  said in formation was told my history by teacher.                               

Tambdi Surla Temple

The most ancient temple in the whole of Goa is located at a place called Tambdi surla. which is approximately 65 kms from the capital city of panaji  and  12 kms from the border crossing post of mollem. Tambdi surla itself is in the middle of a forest area.

the small,beautifully carved and perfectely proportional black basalt temple is dedicated  to lord Shiva and is remainiscent of the temples at Aihole in neighbouring Karnataka.The temple is located at the foot of Anmod Ghat, which connects Goa to the state of karnataka. The kadamba dynasty rule Goa from 10th to 14th centuries and build temple from the finest weather resistant grey black basalt, carried across the mountain from the Deccan plateu and carved in site by accomplished craftmen.


I have visited this place when I was in school and , we were taken for school picnic.when we reached at spot teacher told us to get down from the bus and we were told to walk till the temple which was our destination  because there is no road for bus to go.the temple is too far. By walking I enjoyed a lot with my friend's and finally i reached at the  temple.The temple looked so beautiful.The carvings are very  beautiful designed. There is small stream flowing from the opposite side of the temple we enjoyed a lot  and then we had our lunch we clicked some photos and the trip was successfull.It was my luck to visit this place and once in life everyone should visit this heavenly place
