Kamakshi temple in Shiroda

Kamakshi temple is one of the famous temple in Goa. The original temple of shri kamakshi devi located in Raia village  in the salcete taluka. However ,In 15th century the deity was shifted to shiroda village because of on going inquisition in Goa.

The Legend say's that,a respected Brahmin Agnimukh residing in a place called Raia one's sent his son named Gunakar to forest for collecting dry grass which he was supposed to used in puja or religious rituals. However the demon Mahishasura swallowed the Brahmin boy, when Agnimukh  approched his neighbours they suggested him to approch  kamakshi. The kamakshi than told the  demon to have a battle. Mahishasur was defeted and the Brahmin son was given back and Agnimukh pleaded kamakshi to reside in raia.

Every month Amavasya or the new moon day is celebrated in kamakshi temple where in thousand  of devotees come for darshan on this day. At night during the Amavasya the palanquin procession of shri kamakshi and Laxmi narayan taken round in the temple premises.
The annual festivals are held  at the temple during the Dusshera period and at the time of jatra in spring.The Divja procession had during the jatra wherein countless married women walk around the temple in the evening holding Divja or clay lamps offers a spectacular site.
This place is a very beautiful place with beautiful statue of Kamakshi and also decorated on the special day.once in life should visit this place.
